We were delighted to have our first ever act from Belfast in The Sound Feed studio last week, contemporary folk, indie and dream pop solo act Emer Maguire. Maguire recently released her debut single, ‘Belfast‘, an ode to her adopted city, which she performs here.
‘Belfast’ has had airplay on BBC Radio Ulster’s Across The Line, where it was promoted as ‘Track for the Day’ immediately after its release. The track has also been played live and acoustic on air on shows such as BBC Radio Ulster’s The Arts Show, and Belfast 89fm.
Strabane musician Emer Maguire‘s sharply observed song writing and ingenious loop of a loop pedal have brought comparisons to Ed Sheeran and Kate Nash, but she is just as likely to look to Glen Hansard, Amanda Palmer or even Kendrick Lamar for inspiration. In the well-crafted style she calls ‘quirky folk’, words have always been as important as music.
Emer combines her love of writing and poetry with her abilities on the piano, guitar, uke and drums. The resulting songs are fresh, original and always based in truth. Live, she brings them to life with that loop pedal, sampler, guitar and fantastic pop voice.
