Finley Quaye played an amazing show in The Grand Social on Saturday night and we managed to catch an interview with Finley backstage before the gig.
Finley’s Debut was a media showcase at London’s Ronnie Scott’s. Reputation established by Maverick A Strike and adventurous but accessible album released in 1997. Two more albums were released on Epic records; Vanguard and Much More Than Much Love. In 2004 the song Dice was a minor hit, helped in part by it’s inclusion on the OC sound track. Performed at SOB’s in NYC and The Roxy in Los Angeles. Performed at Slaine Castle, Glastonbury, WOMAD, V Festival, Roskilde, T in The Park, Vancouver Folk Festival, Star Belly Jam, Garance Music Festival, EXIT Festival, Rockit Festival, Rio Free Jazz Festival, Oppikoppi, Kaya Festival, Glade Festival and Africa Oye. Performed at Le Bataclan, Elyse Montmartre, Le Cigale, Paradiso, Milkweg, Columbia Halle, Zenith, Music Box, Manchester Academy, Rock City, Malcolm X Centre, Brixton Academy, Shepherds Bush Empire, Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre and Earls Court Exhibition Centre.
Recently toured in Canada, Portugal, South Africa and Israel. Supported Julian Marley, James Brown, Ken Boothe, Lee Scratch Perry, Luciano, Paul Weller, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Stereo MCs, The Verve and Ben Harper. Recorded with Thandiswa Mazwai, The Stereo MC’s, BLKJKS, Balkan Beat Box, Chubb Rock, Carlos Bess, Lady Miss Kier, Cathy Claret, Marlon Bois, Danny Sabre, Adrian Sherwood, Skip McDonald, Beth Orton, William Orbit, John Leckie, Ernest Ranglin, Little Roy, Norman Grant, Sly & Robbie, Monty Alexander, Iggy Pop, Tricky, Primal Scream and Massive Attack. The late Amy Winehouse supported at Shepherds Bush Empire in 2003, Cath Coffey supported on UK tours and more recently Martha Tilston supported at London’s Jazz Cafe. Maverick A Strike exploded on to the world scene in 1997.
Vanguard was released in 2000 and Much More Than Much Love in 2004. In 2008 The Best Of The Epic Years was released on Epic Records. Played acoustic shows in Eire, in Galway, Limerick, Cork and Dublin in 2007 the tour also included dates in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Glencoe, Inverness, Orkney and Ayr. Currently performing acoustically in Eire, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria and Italy.
